Any advice about roof renovation

We begin this article with a triviality? Roofs wear out and wear out much, so much so that they are part of a building that was redone more often and why the house rules are considered property of all buildings and all must share in the expenses.

The roof is the part of a building exposed to the weather and if it degrades, the thermal insulation and sometimes also as waterproofing the places environments below it is going to be blessed. So in the life of a building sooner or later there comes a time of restructuring for the roof.
But what are the things to note when you have to renovate a roof?
A good roof must guarantee protection, waterproofing, insulation and ventilation. The ventilation is obviously very important especially in the summer, the best way to get both ventilation and the insulation is to leave a space between the roof tiles and the underlying layers which for example can be made of cork which is an excellent insulator, and it is also waterproof. It is worth remembering information that is probably known to everyone, but as they say in Latin repeat never hurts, the air is a poor conductor of both heat and electricity.

Get into the technical specifics of how to put this concept would make little sense in practice because the techniques and usable materials are many, of course you have to see if you want to spare no expense and have the best or try to find an efficient solution but try to save something. A very good ventilated solution is the one that sees two layers of cork and above a layer of ondulina which will be resting on the tiles. But substituting the second layer of cork with the cork that has reliefs you could eliminate the ondulina and fix the tiles directly to cork saving something. Since we spoke of tiles, we continue to talk about it, normally when draws a roof replacing all, but if you want to save something you can examine them carefully and reuse those in better condition.
And as we create the base of support? With the mortar course, is always a good idea? It has no contraindications? unfortunately, the mortar can hinder micro-ventilation under the tiles which is an essential element of the ventilated solution. Today there are therefore also of the roof renovation solutions not involving the laying of a layer of mortar on which to lay the tiles but an anchoring system with fermacoppi hooks, there are two types: S-hooks that anchor each tile with the next one and L-shaped hooks that anchor the tiles to undermantle.

But such tiles? We decided what kind of restructuring carried out and if there is need special waterproofing, now it is time of the tiles, even here the choice is wide, the classic brick tiles are an excellent solution and especially in town centers where it is bound by aesthetic reasons of consistency with the historical, but if you want and you can, prefer a touch of modernity are the aluminum tiles that are very resistant to temperature, weathering, pollution, are easy to put in work and coloring. Disadvantages? Aluminum is not cheaply.

Not only tiles.

So far we have talked about roofing shingles, but with new materials there are different types of roofing sheets in thermoplastic resins.
The classic tiles if intact and placed with adequate slope should per se ensure a degree of waterproofing of the roof, if this is not sufficient to provide a waterproofing can be carried beneath the tiles with plastic sheaths bitumo, in the case of a roof slate instead with liquid rubber. In the case of roofs made with slabs of new materials to which we referred before the waterproofing features are guaranteed in the field very efficient.
