Any advice about roof renovation

We begin this article with a triviality? Roofs wear out and wear out much, so much so that they are part of a building that was redone more often and why the house rules are considered property of all buildings and all must share in the expenses.

But substituting the second layer of cork with the cork that has reliefs you could eliminate the ondulina and fix the tiles directly to cork saving something. Since we spoke of tiles, we continue to talk about it, normally when draws a roof replacing all, but if you want to save something you can examine them carefully and reuse those in better condition.

It has no contraindications? unfortunately, the mortar can hinder micro-ventilation under the tiles which is an essential element of the ventilated solution. The classic tiles if intact and placed with adequate slope should per se ensure a degree of waterproofing of the roof, if this is not sufficient to provide a waterproofing can be carried beneath the tiles with plastic sheaths bitumo, in the case of a roof slate instead with liquid rubber. Repair a leaky roof

Notice to have the leaky roof is an unpleasant inconvenience, especially when we encounter the bad season, because if not repaired immediately, can cause serious damage to your home. But how can you repair a leaking roof safely and save a lot ‘of money?

Here are the elements to be taken into account
• infiltration, water leakage, moisture problems but also thunderstorms and strong winds can cause deterioration to your roof, because it is constantly exposed to the elements.
• All roofs, whether of a single villa of a condominium complex, are made up of 3 parts: pebbles, tar and offset (or front paper).
• A roof made of terracotta tiles is different from a shingles. If it comes to shingles, the job is easier than it seems because you just remove the damaged parts and replace them with new, obviously paying attention to the positioning, so that the water flows correctly. If it comes to clay roof tiles, you have to contact a mason, given the delicacy of the work.


A useful trick is to first understand where it comes from infiltration or loss because they may drip at a different point in which it is actually positioned. And ‘a task not easy and you can try measuring the distance between the corners of the ceiling and the wet spot and look for the right match. Going back towards the slope should find the point of infiltration.

Once you identify the damage, it is advisable to hire the specific tools such as scaffolding planks, scaffolding tower and stepladder with safety lock, suitable harness, and an instrument to be attached at the waist. Also useful protective shoes and shockproof helmet, why replace the shingles of a roof is a risky job.

To remove the tiles, they should be raised to free the lugs (projections) from the strip of wood to which are fastened and to do that you can help yourself by leveraging with wooden wedges.

If, in the old buildings, the mortar that holds tiles or slates should be deteriorated, they will have to remove the tiles very carefully and leave them to soak in water and then reposition them with fresh mortar following the old tracks.

If necessary, the edges of the slits should be widened using a chisel, then insert the fiberglass tape and fill with sealant.

If your roof is pitched with tiles, you need to remove and replace the plywood, lift the tiles with a wooden or metal rod and remove the tar paper and in the case of plywood deteriorated, it must be replaced by cutting out the damaged part, by measuring the affected area and cutting the new offset so that it covers the hole previously cut. Now you have to fix with care the new plywood and cover with the tar paper and shingles.
